Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a spinal abnormality that is characterized by a twisting of the spine.  It is measured as a degree of curvature as seen on X-Ray from the front. Scoliosis occurs most frequently in girls and usually appears during childhood. It can be detected by uneven shoulder heights, a loss of structural balance or a change in posture.  Often one shoulder blade will be more prominent than the other. If Scoliosis is not spotted early and prevented from worsening, it can cause visible physical change, postural abnormalities and can be a source of pain in children.

Scoliosis should be evaluated by a chiropractor if there is any family history of spinal abnormalities and if the child is complaining of any pain, respiratory symptoms, abdominal difficulties and other abdominal and thoracic complaints. The nerves of the mid back and low back (where scoliosis is usually found) send strength, energy and information to many of the vital organs and the stress on the system due to rotational and postural abnormalities associated with scoliosis can cause severe organ malfunction.

Surgical options for scoliosis are painful, have significant scarring, and unfortunately have a high risk for infection, nerve damage and failure above and below the surgery.  Conservative options should be utilized before surgery is attempted. At ICC we provide a significantly different approach in the conservative treatment of scoliosis. If you or a loved one is suffering from scoliosis, we may have a solution that does not involve surgery.

A thorough history, examination, imaging and other tests can help us determine if you are a candidate for our rehabilitation protocols. Call today to schedule a consultation to see if the doctors at International Chiropractic Clinic can help.
